    Abstract
  • TheconventionalsplitHopkinsonpressurebar(SHPB)hassomelimitationswhenthespecimenissofttissue. The modificationsarenecessarytoensurethereliabilityofSHPBexperiment whichisbasedonone-dimensionalanduniformityassumptions.Pulseshaperswereusedtoachieve stressequilibriuminspecimensandconstantstrainrates.Thequartzcrystalforcetransducerswere introducedforcheckingthedynamicstressequilibriumandobtainingthestresssignals.Theadditional axialstressinducedbyradialinertiaeffectatthebeginningofthedynamicloadingwassubtractedwith anequation.Thestressstraincurvesformuscleswereobtainedatvariousloadingdirectionsandvariousstrainrates. Theresultsshowthatthestressstraincurvesisconcaveupwardasaviscoelasticmaterial. Theleastsignificantdifferencemethodisusedtoexplainthatmechanicalpropertiesofmuscle aresensitivetostrainrateandloadingdirection.Thecompressivestrengthalongthefiberdirectionis weakerthanthatalongtheperpendiculardirectionbecausefibersareinclinedtobucklingwhencompressionloadingsarealongfiberdirections
