Abstract
Asamainenergyreleasefromunderwaterexplosion,blastcancauselocaldistortionofwarshipstructure,
whereas,howthehullwillactagainstshockwavedeservesanadvancedresearch.The
hullwassimplifiedasarigid,perfectlyplasticuniformbeamfloatingonwater.Theformulaofthe
wallpressureonthewetsurfaceofthebeam wasattainedandmodifiedaccordingtotestdatawhere
thefluid-structureinteractionwasconsidered.Inordertostudydynamicresponseofship-likebeams
subjectedtounderwaterexplosionlocatedcloselyunderthemid-spanofthebeam,ahypothesiswas
putforwardthatthesphericalshockwavespreadingonthehullwascomposedofaseriesofmoving,
instantaneous,localplaneshockwaves,andtheresponseofthebeamsubjectedtosphericalshockwave
wasequivalenttointegralresponsesduetoalltheplaneshockwaves.Basedonthissimplification,a
theoreticalmethodwasproposedtodescribehowthebeamactedagainstunderwaterexplosionatany
standoff.Finally,thetwomodelsofship-likebeamswereusedintheteststoverifytheproposed
method.Resultsshowthatthetestdatabasicallyagreewiththoseoftheoreticalanalysis.Duringthe
durationofshockwaveloadingonthebeam,themid-spanofthebeamtakesaback-and-forthmovement.
Shockwavesplayasmallerroleinmakingbeamsbulkmovementthanthatincausinglocaldistortion.
