  • Aninvestigationondynamicresponseofclampedsandwichbeamswithaluminumfoam coresandmonolithicbeamswasachievedbyusingaluminumfoamprojectileloading.LDVdeviceand Laserdisplacementtransducerwereappliedto measureimpactvelocityofprojectileanddeflectiontimehistoryofthemid- pointofbackfaceofthebeam,respectively.Andthentheeffectsofapplied impulse,face-sheetthickness,andcorethicknessontheresponseofstructureswerestudied.Deformationandfailuremodesofsandwichbeamsareexhibitedaccordingtoexperimentalinvestigation. The resultsindicatethatthestructuralresponseissensitivetotheconfigurationofsandwichstructures. Thepermanentdeflectionofthemid-pointofbackfaceispresentedproportionalrelationshipwithappliedimpulseandface- sheetthickness,respectively.Comparingwithmonolithicbeamsofthesame mass,theresultshowsthatsandwichbeamshaveasuperiorshockresistance.Theexperimentalresultsareofworthtooptimumdesignofcellularmetallicsandwichstructures
