Abstract
Basedonthesixbasicparametersincludingapparentdensity,mass,plateauload,out-ofplaneelasticmodulus,
compressionratioandenergyabsorption,themappingrelationsweredeveloped
betweenthethickness-lengthratiosofthehexagonalaluminumhoneycombcellsbeforeandaftermagnification.
Thedevelopedmappingrelationsdisplaythatthecellularstructureswiththesamethickness-
lengthratioshavethesamemechanicalandenergy-absorbingproperties.Bymagnifyingthecell
geometricconfigurationsinlengthbutkeepingthesamethickness-lengthratiosatthesametimes,a
newanalysisprocesswasputforwardfortheequivalentmagnificationofthealuminum honeycomb
cellsfromcompactnesstosparseness.Basedontheaboveanalysisprocess,thetimecostinthenumericalsimulationforthehigh-
densitycellularstructureswasdecreasedbyreducingthecellnumbers.
Subsequently,eightnumericalmodelsat1-8timesmagnificationofthesamealuminumhoneycomb
cellwerebuiltonthebasisoftheexplicitfiniteelementmethodandthesimulatedresultsbythem
confirmedthevalidityoftheequivalentmethoddeveloped.Comparisonofthecomputedtimebefore
andaftermagnificationshowsthehighefficiencyoftheequivalentmethod.Butwhenthetotalsizein
theout-of-planedirectionisapproximatetothecelllength,theequivalentmethodislimited.
